John Ruskin in Modern Painters (1860) states: “No one can explain
how the notes of a Mozart melody, or the folds of a piece of Titian’s
drapery, produce their essential effects. If you do not feel it,
no one can by reasoning make you feel it.”
In my work, I attempt to transcend
the conscious, analytical thought processes of the viewer. I
want the mind to be stripped of the sophisticated cultural trappings
of modern man; to regress to the primitive, sub-conscious, non-calculating
- to the most visceral human state. If you react - feel with
your gut - I have succeeded.
